And I Do Appreciate Your Being 'Round

I'm still looking for a few good bloggers for my QUINN CUMMINGS ALL YOU CAN BLAB BLOG BOOK TOUR 2009. You give me questions, I answer them. You post them with, if it pleased you, a link to the book Notes from the Underwire. I'd link here to your blog, which was linking to my book. It would be somewhere between cozy and incestuous, all the mutual linking. But I'd write your blog for you for one entry, and wouldn't that make your summer a little easier?

I'd love to participate but I can't think of any specific questions! My brain is still fried from the weekend!

Let me think...

You clearly are uneasy about the celebrity culture of our society (intensified by reality-tv shows like "The Real World" and "Jon and Kate plus 8"). I know there is much more to Los Angelest than the television industry, but you can't deny that the country's spiritual center of the Church of Easy Fame in Hollywood. You grew up in L.A. Consort is from New York. How do you feel about raising your daughter in L.A.? Have you ever considered moving elsewhere? Why or why not?

That's probably not an original question, but it's what I'd like to know. :-) I'm looking so forward to your book! I wish I could come to the signing at Vroman's but I don't think I'll be able to swing it. We live in San Diego, and my Navy-officer husband is leaving a few days after that for a six-month deployment. Maybe you'll have another signing later this summer?

there is hardly a question that I could ask that sounds original I'm sure so I'll go tried and true.

You grew up as a child of the 70s and 80s - what is one vivid pop culture memory you have of your generation and if you could bring it back, would you? What pop culture item do you think will be representative of the current decade?

Quinn, If you could re-live a single day of your childhood, with you daughter, ( think Back To The Future) When would it be?

I'd love to blog about your book Quinn! You know where to find me on my site. I can think of lots of questions!

1. You've managed to create a very successful blog without major ads and pop-ups distracting your readers. So, how did you get noticed by a publisher without Google AdSense?

2. Most emerging writers are bombarded with advice about self-promotion, branding and the all-important platform. What do you think about all that?

3. What kind of writing schedule do you follow?

4. Who are your favorite writers?

5. What has been the most surprising aspect of blogging?

I could go on and on! Can't wait to hit the store tomorrow!

In the vein of web incestuousness, I'd like to plug my blog, Sara in Vermont, where Quinn is kicking off her book blog tour tomorrow.

In your unbelievable fantastic, people-you-must-buy-this book, there is a scene where two women are horrifically rude parading you around their party like some kind of circus animal. That said, anytime I mention your book to someone they say, "OH I LOVE HER!" And then they start talking about you in The Goodbye Girl or Family... I wonder how you feel about that. For me, when I first saw you had a book I was so happy to hear you were around and well because I, too, loved you in the Goodbye Girl (and as a kid wanted to be your best friend) and also, my aunt took me to that movie in 1977 in a theater on 57th Street and they had homemade brownies -so I do connect you with NYC and brownies both of which I love. What was the question?

I'm loving the questions, and your tour stop at Sara's was so great. (It's really a comfort to me to know where the artwork on the cover came from.) My copy of your book arrived about half an hour ago, so I've only had a chance to read the first chapter... you understand, I had to catch up on my blog reading first ... but I can already tell I'm going to enjoy this as much as I enjoy your blog.

So--a question? I can think of a bunch!

There's the trite cliche of, "What made you decide to become a writer?" (Shudder)

Or I could ask something really obscure like, "What was it like to be on Remington Steele and roller skate in a long, velvet skirt?" (Can't help that one--it's actually one of my all-time favorite episodes from one of my all-time favorite shows, and, well, Pierce Brosnan... are his eyes really that blue in person?)

How about, "Are you as entertaining in real life as you are in print?"

"What's your favorite kind of thing to write?"

"When you're not chasing around after pets, family, or doing home repairs, what do you do to relax? Any hobbies?"

...Which, as an avid knitter/spinner myself, seques right into "Have you ever actually tried knitting or crocheting or any fabric-y kind of crafts?" (Inquiring minds want to know!)

"Is there anything about acting that you miss? Would you ever consider acting again? Doing a cameo?"

"Favorite kinds of things to read? Books? Magazines? Funny? Serious? Fiction? Non-Fiction?"

"Somebody already asked how often you're recognized from Goodbye Girl or Family ... are there ever times when you EXPECT to be recognized but aren't?"

"What's your ideal way to spend a day?"

"What's the most recent book you read that you loved?" (So much easier than asking about a favorite book--and, theoretically, recent enough to be easy to remember.)

"My dog would like to know what, if any, is your favorite dog breed, and how do you feel about Boykin Spaniels?"

"Are you enjoying the book-tour? Are the virtual hotels between blog spots comfy? Where might people find you physically signing books?"

...Hmm. I could keep going, but think I'll stop there! If you would like to answer any or all of these as a blog-tour-stop at my writing blog, you'd be more than welcome! Frankly, I just had fun thinking them up and really, could keep going...

Is it too late? Is it too late? Can I still play?

The Goodbye Girl is one of my husband's favorite movies. So even though I understand about the thirty-years ago annoyance, I asked him if he had anything he might want to know. I braced myself for all kinds of teenaged-boy crushy-gaggy stuff I might not want to know about him (forgetting, for an instant, that teenaged boys are not the audience for Tiger Beat), but what he said was "Ask her what kind of guitar Dreyfuss was playing." So my question is...

Why did I marry a musician?

I just found your blog via the Backspace Forum and would love for you to guest blog on our site, www.realitycoveredinchocolate.blogspot.com.

Here's a few questions:

Which post on my blog was your favorite and why? (Ok, just kidding. No not really)

If you could either act or write, which one would you choose? What if you never had an audience to perform for or to read your writing, would you still choose the same?

When writing your book, was there anything that you considered taking out before publication? Or was there anything that was removed that you regret deleting?

Writers and actors everywhere talk about their "amazing journey"; it's become the catchphrase of our time(and one I despise). Without using the words "amazing" or "journey", tell me what led you to write about your, um, amazing journey.

I prefer my brownies with nuts. Are you more of a "with nuts" kind of person, or "without"?

What's the nicest thing a person ever said to you as a child? As an adult?

My husband frequently steps up on his soap box (as written about in my blog) when it comes to certain political practices. I can get heated up when I discuss family issues. What gets you up on your soap box? And what does it take to bring you back down?

And finally, I think the next generation is suffering from many things but mostly, I worry about their lack of good ad slogans. We grew up wondering how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, wondering where the beef was and what we would do for a Klondike Bar. If you had only one catchy slogan used to sum up your life so far, what would it be? Would it be the same if you had to print it on t-shirts and hats and wear it until your dying day?

That's it for now! Hope to see you on our blog!

Is it possible to ask another question?

Daughter, child actress, writer, wife, mother, saver of cats and now author...What's next for Quinn Cummings?

I do have a question... but since I just got your book I haven't had a chance to read it. I don't know if this would fit what you are looking for?

Knowing what you know about the Hollywood lifestyle (from being a child star and later a casting agent), and seeing how some of the young actors Hollywood are tempted with excess, what would you say to your daughter if she asked if she could go into acting?

I'm a latecomer to the blog book tour but hey, I'm here, so here goes...

I have a million questins for you as an actor but I will stick to the author questions. I am former editorial writer turned fiction writer with one short story published and two children's books looking for an agent/publisher.

My question is....was all the hard work worth it? I mean, when you finally got your book in your hand was it "Yay!" or "Eh."

I ask because the publishing world for a first-time author is so dog-eat-dog-if-dog-can-find-agent-publisher.

Would you do it again, knowing what you know now?

On my way now to my local indpendent bookstore to pick up your creation....
