High N' Dry

I was about to write an entry about how I am completely dried-up creatively right now, and then decided to spend the same time eating a pint of ice cream and reading Jean Kerr or Bailey White. If you are looking for something light and funny to read this weekend, I heartily suggest either.

Come Monday, I shall be filled with juicy observational goodness.

Jean Kerr...I think my favorite is "Penny Candy" though "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" also was excellent. It took me years to locate a copy of "The Snake Has All the Lines," which I think is still out of print. Have you read her play, "Mary, Mary"? It's in my reader's guilt stack. Bailey White...I laughed so hard reading "Mama Makes Up Her Mind" that I feared bodily injury. I need to finish reading "Sleeping at the Starlite Motel" - work keeps interfering with my pleasure reading...How is the painting project going?

...and what flavor ice cream do you suggest -- also a classic, like those writers?

There are so many things I ought to do instead of blogging (reading and writing posts/comments) but for the past 10 months, THIS has been my outlet for creativity, for information, even for some nice friendships.

I work in publishing, and have to read every day, so the will to read "after hours" has waned greatly; however, my creativity streak has improved tenfold -- the writing muse hits me on the head on a daily or near-daily basis.
Blogging is just a continuum of the personal journals I kept for many many years...just that this blogging journal of mine is public.

But I could stop the blogging to make use of a tasty pint of ice cream every now and again!

Kate-We have a painted living room. We have a painted dining room.

We appear to have lost momentum before taking on the kitchen. I sense paint samples might be heading towards the wall again.

Pearl-For me, slacking off should involve Dulce de Leche, which is a cloyingly sweet caramel-like substance winding its way through vanilla. I toyed briefly with getting the "Lite" version, but decided to fully commit to my calories.

Hi Quinn... hope you enjoyed your ice cream and your weekend.

To commemorate 9/11, I've decided to visit every single blog on my blogroll today. I appreciate the entertainment and enjoyment you provide, and I wish you peace and happiness.

Quinn,

"Lite" and "ice cream" should never be in the same sentence together. Life is short. Indulge!

Dulce de Leche ice cream and Bailey White - no wonder we are friends. May I also recommend "The Joyous Season" by Patrick Dennis. He wrote Auntie Mame, but the Joyous Season is better, imo - told from the standpoint of a precocious boy (about 10 or 11) with a hilariously eccentric family, who recounts his a wonderfully comic disastrous Christmas season. I think I have a copy somewhere if your library doesn't carry it....
